How to get Poland residence permit

Bases and list of documents

Foreigners who need to stay in Poland longer than they can do it on a visa-free basis (as for Ukrainians, for example) or a visa apply for the card. There are different grounds for legal stay in the country and further obtaining a residence permit. Here are the most popular:

Employment. Having a valid long-term employment contract is a strong basis. An important detail — your income must exceed the Polish minimum salary (from 01.01.2026 — 4,806 PLN), taking into account the needs of your family.

Business. The Poland Business Harbour visa allows you to get a card for a while. We will tell you how to get residence card in Poland correctly.

Study. If you are a student, you can apply for a residence and work permit.

Family reunion. Marriage with a Polish citizen is a legitimate reason to get an Hour's stay. As well as kinship with a person who has a resident permit (if temporary, then at least 2 years).

Preparation and translation

You will need 2 sets of documents — from the foreigner's homeland and from Poland. The first package needs to be translated. This is done by special sworn translators accredited by the state. We cooperate with a large number of such specialists, so we will easily solve your problem.

The second package of papers needs to be collected in Poland. Their list is different, mainly — an employment contract, salary statements, tax. Separately, there is a list of documents that will have to be sent every month.

Insurance

If you are not insured anywhere, we will help you get such services with a 30% discount. If you are already working, then surely your employer is already paying for you in NFZ. Together we will find out.

Application methods

There are different ways to apply for residence permit in Poland:

Electronic only via MOS (from 27 April 2026). The application for a temporary residence card is submitted via the MOS system (mos.cudzoziemcy.gov.pl). Paper submission by post or at the office desk is no longer accepted.

You sign it personally. The MOS account and the signature on the application — only the foreigner personally (login via login.gov.pl, signature via profil zaufany, a qualified or personal e-signature with e-Dowód). A representative cannot file for you, but we fill in the application together with you — online via Google Meet or side by side — so there are no mistakes.

Confirmation and legal stay. Immediately after submission the system issues a confirmation of receipt (UPO), and legal stay during processing is confirmed by the zaświadczenie o złożeniu wniosku — it is downloaded from MOS and replaces the former passport stamp. Later the office will summon you in person to give fingerprints and present your original passport.

I want to sincerely thank Latwy Start and especially Olga for the excellent work and support at every step.

Olga is a true professional and at the same time a very caring, attentive person. From the very start she guided me step by step: she helped me gather the documents and explained everything in detail, and then took on all the organizational matters and completely removed the stress that usually comes with such procedures.

I'm very happy to recommend her to anyone who values professionalism, reliability and a human touch. And I will absolutely turn to her again.

I got my permanent residence card (karta stałego pobytu) with the help of Latwy Start, based on my Polish roots. I didn't really look into it myself. They told me which documents were needed and where to go. Got it all done, and now the card is in my hands.

Łatwy Start is a great choice for an IT specialist, everything runs like clockwork. A big plus is the full transparency about how invoicing (faktury) and payments are handled.

I want to leave a review about Latwy Start, and specifically about working with Olga. She is a true professional and a very pleasant person.

Olga helped me at every stage: from gathering the documents, where she constantly advised me and sent examples of how to fill them in so everything would be perfect, all the way to the visit to the urząd (office), where she went with me and completely took away the stress that comes with the procedure.

After I submitted the application, Olga kept me regularly updated on the status of my case and did everything she could to have it processed faster.

I'm incredibly happy with her work and will definitely turn to her again. Today I picked up my first card, valid for 3 years, and I know for sure - without Olga I wouldn't have managed!☺️

I'm giving 1 star. I was planning to start working with them through the incubator. I sent 3 messages - by email and through the form on the site, messaged them on Instagram, made 2 calls (no answer). I wasted a week waiting. They simply ignored me. How can you trust this service if the foundation can't even reply to a message and send documents to review. Waiting for an explanation.

Popular questions

Can I, working remotely for another country, somehow legalize in Poland?

Yes. There are several options to spend your income through the Polish tax service. Depending on the source of income and your type of activity, there will be different tax rates. And in some cases, it is even more profitable to receive foreign income in Poland due to VAT.

Do you assist in finding a job and help with employment?

We are not a recruitment agency. In addition to our core activity of legalization in Poland, our expertise includes assistance with setting up a sole proprietorship or company, handling transactions through the incubator, providing EOR services, preparing document lists for employers, and offering consultations.

How much should I earn to move to Poland and live there?

If you are moving alone and not as a refugee, the required amount depends on factors such as housing (a room or a separate apartment), food expenses, whether you have your own transport, and your general needs. If legalization is involved, the law requires you to earn at least the salary level specified for your profession in the relevant voivodeship.

How long does it usually take to process a case?

Approximately 3-4 months, if a complete set of documents was prepared immediately. And also, if you have sent timely relevant data or documents that may affect the decision-making.

In some cities, for example, Wroclaw and Gdansk, the time frame may be 1-2 years.

There are also delays in the issuance of plastic for up to 2 months.

What conditions must be met by family members who apply for reunification on my Temporary Residence Card?

On their part, only the presence of fingerprints (not applicable to children under 6 years). They may not study or work, provided that your income covers their maintenance.

Should my employer take care of my Temporary Residence Card himself?

The employer only needs to provide the required statements and extracts. In addition to these, you will need to submit several other types of documents. After that, the application is submitted to the office (urząd), where your personal presence is mandatory.

How can I check the status of the card and find out at what stage of the registration process?

You can submit a request through the special form on the Voivodeship portal or call the office (urząd). If no officer has been assigned to your case yet, this information can only be provided to you in person.

How many times can I apply for a residence permit?

As many as you want. But at the same time, a new application must be submitted within 14 days after receiving the refusal.

Is it possible to work while waiting for a residence permit?

Yes.

Is it possible to leave if I'm waiting for a residence permit?

Yes. Crossing the border does not affect the course of the case in any way. At the border, just show the stamp of waiting for the card (it is put in the passport). However, there are nuances — it is better not to leave for a long time (usually no more than a month for the entire period of consideration of the case). And if the visa is expired at the same time, it will not be possible to come back — you will have to open a new one.

Is it possible to travel around Europe with a residence permit?

Yes, but no longer than 90 days.

In which cases the residence permit is canceled? Can the employer cancel it?

— The foreigner provided false information about himself.
— Non-payment of taxes.
— The irrelevance of the purpose or intention on the basis of which the decision on extradition was made

The full list of persons is specified in Article 101

The employer cannot cancel the residence permit independently.

How long does it take to get a residence permit in Poland?

The processing time for a residence permit in Poland varies depending on the type of permit and the regional office handling your application. On average: Temporary residence permit (TRC): 2-6 months Permanent residence permit: 6 months or longer Long-term EU resident permit: 3 months or longer Processing times may be extended if additional documents are requested. To ensure a smooth application process, consider seeking assistance from an immigration lawyer or visa agency specializing in Polish immigration matters.

TRC and a Pole's Card - what is the difference?

TRC/PRC is a residence permit, and a Pole's card is just an identification to Polish nationality. The Pole's card allows you to study at state universities for free, get a one-time allowance, apply for a national visa and become a guest. After a year of receiving the PRC, you can already apply for citizenship. And in the case of a card of hours to stay, you get an EU resident after 5 years and after 3 more — citizenship.
