Business incubator programs and services

How a startup can get training, mentorship, funding, and a job

What do business incubators offer startups? They help launch and grow a business: they provide training, access to funding, mentors, and workspaces. All this allows teams to quickly validate their ideas, avoid mistakes, and find their first clients. In this article, we'll explore the programs and services available at incubators and how they work in practice.

Experience incubation at Łatwy Start – training, mentors, funding, and an office all in one place.

Educational programs for startups

Courses and trainings for entrepreneurs

Business incubators launch educational programs designed specifically for startups. These are typically modular courses covering key topics:

  • Marketing and product validation: study of the Product-Market Fit model, customer segments, customer journey, hypothesis validation methods (CustDev, JTBD).
  • Financial planning: development of Unit Economics, cash flow forecast, burn rate assessment, break-even point development.
  • Project management: implementation of Agile/Scrum, working with Kanban boards, sprint management, performance metrics (velocity, lead time).
  • Legal basis: choice of form of ownership (SP z oo, jednoosobowa działalność), IP registration, basics of contract law and GDPR.

Education in incubators is based on the "learn and apply" principle: after each theoretical session, there is a practical assignment on your project—for example, calculating a financial model or interviewing a potential client.

According to the study UBI Global, more than 60% startups that have completed educational programs in incubators continue to be active after 5 years.

Master classes and specialized trainings

Master classes at business incubators focus on specific and practical topics:

  • How to package a product for investors: creating a pitch deck, Cap Table, TAM/SAM/SOM analysis.
  • Technical intensives: CI/CD implementation, stack selection (Node.js, React, Python), DevOps process setup.
  • Team building and processes: approaches to hiring in a startup, implementing OKRs, building an organizational structure.

The programs are created with the participation of practitioners—CTOs, PMs, analysts, and investors—who share real-life case studies. These events are often led by incubator alumni or experts from partner companies.

Advanced training programs

Some incubators provide access to university courses (for example, through agreements with SGH, UW, or international partners). Online certificates are also available (for example, from Coursera, edX, Google Startup School), paid for by the incubators. An important part is access to business simulations, where entrepreneurs go through a simulated startup development cycle and learn how to make decisions under uncertainty.

Example: startup Packhelp (packaging solutions), having completed the ReaktorX program in Warsaw, gained access to specialized courses in digital marketing and logistics. This accelerated the company's expansion into EU markets.

According to data Startup Poland Report 2023Participation in specialized educational programs doubles a startup's chances of becoming profitable in the first two years.

Startup roadmap in a business incubator

Financial support for business incubators

Grants for startups

Incubators often act as intermediaries between startups and public or private funds. Popular programs include:

  • PARP (Polish Agency for Enterprise Development) — grants from 100 thousand to 1 million zlotys for innovative businesses.
  • Bridge Alpha — financing of up to 3 million zlotys with co-financing from the investor.
  • EIC Accelerator (EU) — European grant support for deep-tech startups.

Grants are awarded through a competitive process. Incubators assist with preparing applications, technical documentation, business plans, profitability forecasts, and innovation justifications.

Example: startup StethoMe received support in the amount of PLN 1.6 million within the NCBR, with the support of the Poznań Science and Technology Park incubator.

Venture capital investments

Incubators often partner with VC funds, business angels, and corporate accelerators (PKO VC, InnoEnergy, bValue, Innovation Nest, and others). Participation in an incubator increases trust in a startup and accelerates the investment due diligence process.

Many incubators conduct Demo Day, where startups present their projects to investors. Incubators also help startups prepare:

  • investment teaser,
  • use of funds plan,
  • IRR calculation and exit strategy.

Loans and financing for startups

Some incubators work with banks (for example, BGK) and microfinance funds. Available:

  • startup loans with reduced interest rates (up to 3% per annum),
  • payment deferment for 6-12 months (grace period),
  • loans guaranteed by a fund (Fundusz Poręczeń Kredytowych).

Incubators help prepare financial forecasts, prove the project's solvency, and collect documentation.

How business incubators influence startup survival

Participation in competitions and startup competitions

Popular startup competitions: StartUp Hub Poland ChallengeMIT Enterprise ForumPoland PrizeChivas VentureIncubators submit projects for participation, prepare them for pitching, and conduct Q&A sessions with the jury.

Winning competitions not only provides money, but also free PR, access to partners, and support for international expansion.

According to data Crunchbase, more than 40% startups that raised funding through incubators continue to grow after their second round of investment.

Mentoring in business incubators

How does the mentoring program work?

The program is built on a model of regular interaction: at least 2-4 meetings per month, setting goals, and monitoring progress. The mentor helps:

  • build a project roadmap,
  • test business hypotheses,
  • avoid common mistakes (e.g. mismatch of supply and demand, early scale),
  • formulate a market entry strategy.

All mentoring relationships are formalized in an agreement. In some incubators (for example, Google for Startups) the mentor receives a share, in others he works on a non-profit basis.

Who can become a mentor?

Mentors are divided into several categories:

  • Serial entrepreneurs — share experience in launching and scaling products.
  • Investors — preparing a startup to attract capital.
  • Subject matter experts — CMO, CTO, CFO, who help with specific tasks.
  • Incubator managers — curators who support the project from selection to exit from the program.

Incubators hold “mentor matching sessions”—meetings where startups meet potential mentors.

Benefits of Mentoring Programs

Mentoring provides strategic support. This is especially important during pivots (model changes), entering new markets, or preparing for an investment round.

Example: startup Booksy I completed the Google for Startups acceleration program and received a mentor from the B2C platform industry. This helped me build a user journey and double my booking conversion rate.

Study Techstars: 70% startups with active mentoring achieve product sustainability in the first year.

Workspaces and infrastructure of business incubators

Office spaces and coworking spaces

Business incubators provide:

  • workstations (24/7 access),
  • meeting rooms,
  • presentation areas and Demo Days,
  • Wi-Fi, printers, coffee points.

Private offices are available for teams of 2–10 people. Prices are below market or subsidized. A company's legal registration address is also available.

Access to equipment and laboratories

Technical incubators provide access to:

  • 3D printers, machines, soldering,
  • biolaboratories (for biotech startups),
  • test zones (for example, smart city, agricultural fields).

Example: in Wrocław Technology Park Startups can rent laboratory space with fumigation cabinets and exhaust hoods at a price of $100–150/m².

Infrastructure services for startups

Incubators often include:

  • legal support (contracts, NDA, IP),
  • accounting (KPiR, VAT, ZUS),
  • IT consulting (architecture, security),
  • assistance in employee registration (umowa o prace, B2B, umowa zlecenie).

Many incubators are integrated with no-code platforms (Bubble, Webflow) and support teams in launching MVPs.

Study European Startup Monitor shows that startups with access to infrastructure enter the market 4-6 months earlier than others.

Conclusion

Business incubators are more than just a space; they're a support ecosystem. They provide knowledge, resources, a network, and assistance during the most challenging stages of a startup. To choose the right incubator, it's important to evaluate:

  • Training programs: how practical they are and how suitable they are for your stage.
  • Funding opportunities: grants, funds, competitions.
  • Mentor network: is there access to the required level of experience?
  • Infrastructure: office, equipment, lawyers, accountants.

According to data Startup Poland, companies that have completed the full incubation cycle are more likely to enter foreign markets at 47% and more likely to complete Series A at 35%.
